Our bodies have an innate ability to heal themselves and acupuncture can accelerate the healing process by promoting circulation in the body, reducing inflammation, and calming the nervous system.

Acupuncture
1st Session (90 min)
In your first session we will do an in depth assessment of your health and lifestyle. It is here that we can determine the root cause of what ails you and create a plan. After talking with you I use a variety of diagnostics to determine an acupuncture treatment plan. This includes tongue and pulse diagnosis. Following treatment I will provide detailed advice via email on lifestyle, nutrition, herbs, and supplements that can accelerate your healing.
Follow up (60 min)
Acupuncture can decrease pain in the first session and start to re-calibrate your body, however, multiple sessions may be required to completely resolve an issue. I work with your body's response to acupuncture following your first treatment to better determine a course of sessions, if needed.
Additional techniques
Cupping, Tuina (Massage), Moxa, E-stim, and Herbal consultation are included at no cost as part of the treatment.

For over a year I have been enjoying weekly visits with Maire. The visits are deeply relaxing and I cherish every session. I enjoy having someone ask me about my week, sleep, feelings and cycles. Regulated visits have given me perspective of my week and helped me look inwards regarding health and emotions. I definitely recommend Maire to anyone and appreciate the time she takes in efforts to get to the bottom of what ever the issue is, as well as the homework she does prior to each visit in efforts to provide the best treatment.

Ms. Cahoon is incredibly knowledgeable with the many different aspects that are involved in terms of the full acupuncture experience... She is very in tune with customizing the session to your personal needs which is a key factor in order to make the most of the session...She has created a calming environment, with attention to detail that makes the overall experience a calming & rejuvenating one....I have had 3 sessions thus far, & will continue to see Ms. Cahoon on a weekly basis....I absolutely recommend Mala Healing Arts to anyone interested in finding relief via Acupuncture/Chinese Medicine Healing.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Maire Cahoon for about 2 years, and during this time she has opened my eyes to the benefits of visiting a well-trained and professional acupuncture specialist. Maire is able to successfully combine the qualities of professionalism, and kind/compassionate/personalized care. When introduced to her for the first time, I had little experience with acupuncture, and was skeptical of what benefits even a well-trained practitioner would be able to provide. In my first session alone, Maire was able to effectively relieve multiple ailments, and more importantly, introduce me to a more healthy lifestyle that I continue today. She is effective not only with the technical skills, but also with forming positive relationships with others, and educating others about health. Maire opened my eyes to what expert acupuncture practice can provide to patients, and I am able to endorse Maire Cahoon for her acupuncture expertise without reservation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it hurt?
Acupuncture needles are extremely fine, about the diameter of hair. Most of the time you won't feel the insertion, other times you may feel a sensation as they are inserted, something akin to a mosquito bite. Once all the needles are in though, you should not feel any discomfort.
How many sessions do I need?
This is highly dependent on the condition being addressed and the individual. Two people coming in with the exact same condition can have widely varying experiences.
Similar to taking a medication, 1 pill is not as effective as taking a medication over a period of time for the effects to be felt. Acupuncture treatments also work cumulatively over a length of time. Each treatment building upon the previous one. An average course of treatment varies between 5 to 10 sessions, usually spaced out at least 1x week for the 1st month. It'll only be after your first treatment that I can better assess how your body responds and how many sessions I'd recommend.
